What the Oscars Tells Us About Engagement Trends in 2026

Every year the Oscars red carpet gives us a fascinating glimpse into the world of high jewellery. From spectacular diamond necklaces to elegant earrings and statement rings, it’s one of the few occasions where jewellery truly takes centre stage. For someone who has spent over three decades working with diamonds, I always enjoy seeing what trends emerge from the event. While Hollywood may feel worlds away from Hatton Garden, the truth is that the styles we see on the red carpet often influence jewellery trends for years to come.

Oval and Emerald Cuts Continue to Rise

While the round brilliant cut will always remain the most popular diamond shape, fancy shapes are continuing to gain popularity. The oval cut diamond in particular remains a favourite. It offers fantastic sparkle while also creating the illusion of a larger stone on the finger. Emerald cuts are also enjoying a resurgence thanks to their understated, architectural beauty.Many clients who visit me are now exploring these shapes when designing a bespoke engagement ring.

Yellow Gold is Making a Comeback

For many years platinum and white gold dominated engagement rings and fine jewellery. Recently, however, there has been a noticeable shift back towards yellow gold. We saw plenty of yellow gold settings and vintage-inspired designs on the red carpet this year, and it’s a trend I’m increasingly seeing here in Hatton Garden as well. It offers warmth and character, particularly when paired with beautifully cut diamonds.

Trends Change, Craftsmanship Doesn’t

While jewellery styles evolve over time, the fundamentals of great craftsmanship never change. A beautifully cut diamond, carefully selected and set with precision, will always stand the test of time. That’s why when designing engagement rings I focus less on fleeting trends and more on creating pieces that will be cherished for generations.

Diamonds Remain the Star

Unsurprisingly, diamonds were once again the dominant feature at this year’s ceremony. Whether worn as classic solitaire earrings or in elaborate vintage-inspired necklaces, natural diamonds continue to capture attention like no other gemstone. What stood out this year was a return to timeless elegance. Rather than overly complicated designs, many pieces focused on beautifully cut stones set in clean, refined settings. It’s a style I see reflected more and more in engagement ring consultations.
