  • How to Remove An Engagement Ring Stuck On Your Finger

Cutting ToolsMy engagement ring is stuck on my finger!

It happens. Sometimes it’s an easy fix. Other times it’s a bit more involved. It can happen to men and women alike. It doesn’t discriminate and it’s not always obvious. But it does happen.

I am of course talking about rings. To be more specific, rings that are stuck on the finger, and which have no chance whatsoever of coming of. At least not in the conventional way. You’ve tried it all. Soap and water. Dunking your hand in vegetable oil. Using the string or dental floss method. Placing your hand in a bucket of ice.

None of these work. The next obvious step would be for a trip down to A&E. However, the thought of waiting in line for 4-6 hours, and sitting on a room full of “ill” people doesn’t fill you with joy. So what alternative is there? What other way is there to remove a ring from my finger which doesn’t involve any of the methods previously mentioned?

I have the answer. Come and see your friendly, qualified, and experienced jeweller, me!

For those of you I’ve known for a long time, you’ll know that for a few years I owned a body piercing studio. You’ll also know that I’ve been in the jewellery trade for just over 30 years now. Not only do I have the tools, pictured here, but I also have the experience and know-how to be able to safely cut a ring, from a finger, which is stuck.

One common reason why rings get stuck is age, and I don’t mean the age of the ring! It’s common, that as we all get older, and our body changes, the rings get unnoticeably tighter. We grow. And believe it or not our hands grow around our ring. It’s natural. Another reason why rings get stuck on your finger is arthritis. The knuckles grow and we don’t think to remove the ring. It’s not tight. In fact, the ring can still be comfortable on the hand. Yet when we need to remove the ring, for one reason or another, we realise it should have come off years ago. It’s now stuck.

Here is a story of a lady, Merryn, who came to see me recently with just this problem. Her ring was stuck on her middle finger. It had been there for around thirty years, and it wasn’t budging. Her knuckle had swollen. She had tried all the options named above. Nothing worked. She searched online and came across my website. Apparently, after doing all her research, she had discovered that not only was I the only jeweller in London, but elsewhere for that matter, who offer a ring cutting service. She called in the morning. I had her booked in for lunchtime that day. Five minutes after she walked in, the ring was off. I had restored an even blood supply to her finger. As you can see, she was so thrilled about it, she left me a glowing five-star Google review. Thank you Merryn.
