Last week I was lamenting the disposable nature of Christmas and the fact that the gifts we seem to be coerced by clever advertising to buy tend to have a very short shelf life before they go out of fashion.
I made the point that in giving the gift of diamonds – whether as a ring, a timepiece or earrings – you were buying something completely unique that would always be in vogue. And, of course, it would also have the added benefit of being a solid investment as diamonds tend to increase in value rather than the other way around.
So that begs the question of exactly what to buy.
Here, then, are my top His and Hers jewellery gifts that you ought to consider to make Christmas unforgettable in 2017.
GIFTS FOR HER
Engagement ring: This is relevant to almost everyone. Yes, really. This gift is directed at women in relationships where they aren't engaged yet, and also to married women who for whatever reason never received an engagement ring or would like their existing ring to be redesigned.
It's not unusual for a ring to be redesigned. Over time the setting will wear thin, whereas the diamonds will always be the romantic statement they always were. And the cost of having a ring redesigned is nowhere near the original cost of the ring when all I'm doing is remaking the ring with your diamonds.

Earrings: Nothing shows off a classy lady better than classy pair of studs. I’d recommend either a pair of traditional diamond studs or perhaps the now fashionable halo design diamond studs. If you opt for the halo you could also go for a coloured stone like an aqua marine or sapphire or even her birthstone.
Tennis bracelet: A tennis bracelet is something many women long for. A complete row of diamonds to fit around her wrist, which, when made correctly, hides the clasp and appears to circle the wrist infinitely. Everything should blend. It's always tricky to get the balance right between the size and the quality of the diamonds.
Eternity ring: You love her how much? Of course you do, which is why you want to show her by having a lovely eternity ring made. And when’s the right time to buy one? Ignore what other people say – it’s always the right time!
Pendant: During the lovely hot weather over the summer I noticed lots of ladies walking around with V neck t-shirts on, yet their necks were bare. A beautifully made pendant nestled against a woman’s skin always makes her look like a million dollars.
Watch: It’s very common for men to receive a lovely timepiece at this time of year, so if you feel that the woman in your life has all the jewellery she needs, then perhaps consider buying her a watch. Cufflinks: It doesn't cost a lot of money to have a nice bespoke pair of gold cufflinks made. Cufflinks can look striking, they ooze style and they set off a well-tailored man perfectly.
